Bella arrived today from Alabama and what a great dog she's been so far. I thought Blakesley was tiny, but Bella is even smaller! A whopping 7 pounds! She's a shih tzu poodle mix and just had a baby three months ago... talk about losing the baby weight! :)
She's had quite a day today: driving all the way from AL to WI, having a bath, getting micro-chipped, taking her heartworm medication, and getting a Frontline treatment. She then met her foster siblings, Lincoln and Lily (two giant cats), and went to visit my sister, brother-in-law and niece (who's one and a half). She did great, meeting and playing with everyone. I have no concerns about her ability to do well with other animals or small children!
What I've learned about her so far:
- she knows her name very well and comes immediately when called
- she gets along with other cats and dogs
- she does well with small children
- she hates motorcycles
- she loves to go for walks and walks well on a leash
- she loves to be by her people
- she has a hearty appetite and is very clean about eating (unlike many small dogs)
- she loves to nap and hates waking up :) (watch her video and see; she's so funny!)
I'm hopeful she will still be available on the 25-26 when I can make it down there! She's so stinking cute
ReplyDeleteWhere are you coming from, Terri? Have you filled out an application yet? http://rescue.fluffydog.net/How_to_adopt.html
ReplyDeleteI did the application but was told my pick up is too far out still. Coming from St Paul.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie- My app and fee are in. Can you tell me if she is crate trained? has she been spayed )i know she just had a baby so I wasnt sure on the timing), how long has she been with the rescue in total? Do you feel like she would be ok being home for a normal work day? Does she seem to be learnign not to bark better? thanks, if you might have time to chat, I would love to learn more.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, she's so small that she can't jump up on anything so I haven't been crating her. I do crate her in the car and she does fine. I'm normally gone to work about 8 hours (although the first few days I came home at lunch). She hasn't chewed anything or had any accidents. She really only barks at other animals and she does seem to be learning "quiet" quite well. We are camping this weekend and my friends can't believe how quiet she is (I'm used to big dogs so I guess barking frequency is all relative!) she's done great so far on our camping trip. She took a 3.5 mile hike today and is comfortable sleeping in the tent. She is spayed, microchipped, has had frontline, and heartworm. I've had her for six days. ~Katie
